    Question

I am considering purchasing a camcorder, for short films and such. However I just read that Hi 8 tapes don't go onto vhs tapes. I also read that for short film festivals, you've got to have your film on vhs tapes???!!!

Is there no possible way that hi 8 can go on vhs?

P.S Does anyone know stores where you can get proper mics, and lighting equipment for cameras

If you are considering Hi8 you may as well go the extra mile and get DV.

All standard camcorders allow you to transfer to VHS, and usually come with the cables to do this. You have to supply the VHS recorder.

DV gives you the option to transfer analog (as per Hi8) or via 'firewire' cable to a computer for digital editing. DV is also better quality, generally.

Film-fests want entries initially on VHS so the organisers can watch them all and chuck away the ones they don't like. If you make it through they would then generally ask you for it on film.

I've got a 8MM camcorder, and it goes onto VHS fine.
All you have to do is using the lead supplied, plug it into the OUTPUT (A/V) on the camcorder, and (depending on the type of lead) plug it into the Ariel in, or get a scart connector to plug into the back of the VHS player.

As the leads are usually Phono type, it's easy.
Some DV cameras have BNC leads (Such as Sony DSR-300), which would need an adaptor.

    Hope this helps.
